Death

I found death today

Sitting in my lap

Breathing quite normally

Without worry or mishap

Then the breathing stopped,

And all life grew still

I knew right then and there

That nothing could ever fill

The deep hole now gaping

In the middle of my chest

No matter how well I’d done

I could never do the best.

So now I stand before you

Without my heart or soul

My life is fully ended

And my story has been told

So enjoy your lives today

And forever if you can

But if you see death before you

Please hold out your hand

Accept the gift he gives you

With humbleness and pride

And if you care to thank him

Know I’m on your side
