Paper Dreams

Never say never say never

For you’ll always end up in December

Beating at the cold hard gates

Of what you can and can’t relate

The dark shadows of tomorrow

Overshadow the past of today

And the bright sunrise of forgiveness

Is dulled by the way you say

I’ll stop wondering how to live

When you stop making paper airplanes

I’ll stop hating your whole world

When you stop making paper cranes

In the summer of the springtime

In the winter of the fall

We’ll band together like fools

And we’ll learn to take it all

Life isn’t easy when you live

Christmas never comes for those who give

Keeping your heart locked up

Is the only way to keep things from getting rough

I’ll stop wondering how to live

When you stop making paper snowflakes

I’ll stop hating your whole world

When you stop crying into lakes

In the summer of the springtime

In the winter of the fall

We’ll band together like fools

And we’ll learn to take it all

The turn of the century

Is coming today

And the end of the world

Will happen tomorrow

But the hope for the future

Is crushed by the past

And when you find yourself first

You’ll come into last
